On a peninsula surrounded by the Huxindao Reservoir, this 42-acre, mixed-use community includes luxury apartment buildings, private residences and retail. OLIN designed the landscape as constructed ground, in consideration of the massive system of underground parking, which is used by the community. Public spaces respond with a contemporary yet classic design vocabulary, evoking both Chinese landscape tradition and a modern interpretation of classic European design. The neighborhood has a vibrant pedestrian streetscape to promote connection within the community, while also creating a unique setting that reflects amenities typical of a modern urban lifestyle in China. As a site that benefits from the beauty of its surrounding public park and reservoir, a plan, which is sensitive to the environment, is of critical importance; the design incorporates local materials, and stormwater management systems preserve the integrity of the adjacent fresh water reservoir. The plan was created in close collaboration with Robert A. M. Stern Architects.
