The new Franklin and Murray Colleges were designed in the spirit of their predecessors, reinterpreting elements of the landscape and creating a cohesive new addition to Yale’s historic campus. Merging timeless design with modern innovation, the buildings utilize sustainable landscape design including geothermal wells, stormwater retention and reuse, green roofs and native flora. Prior to concept design, OLIN analyzed the existing residential landscapes on campus, from courtyard sizes to site furnishings, materials and plantings. By reinterpreting these elements, the new colleges will preserve the character of Yale while creating contemporary and enduring social spaces for its residents.
