Abbott Northwestern Hospital Care Pavilion is a significant surgical and critical care facility expansion with its Founder’s Mall re-envisioned, as well as a terrace landscape accessible to patients, staff, and visitors, marking a major development for Allina Health. This project aims to modernize the hospital campus and enhance healthcare delivery in Minnesota and western Wisconsin. It is designed to merge advanced medical facilities with an innovative outdoor landscape. This transformation extends over 4 acres, offering a sanctuary for healing, contemplation, and community engagement. The design intricately integrates through-block connections, enhancing pedestrian access, and fostering an environment where nature and care coalesce.
The redesigned Founder's Mall serves as the project's focal point, functioning as both an entryway and a gathering space that encourages community interaction and personal reflection. The landscape design introduces a series of outdoor "rooms," from a plaza with a tree bosque to a serene, sun-drenched lawn, tailored to support both public gatherings and private moments. This design not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the campus but also significantly contributes to the well-being of patients, visitors, and employees alike. Additionally, a rooftop terrace is introduced as a quiet space for families and caregivers, providing views to the west in a peaceful setting and is positioned to be visible from more than half of the hospital's beds, contributing to the project's holistic approach to healthcare.
