Located in Southeast Los Angeles (SELA), the SELA Cultural Center will provide unique community spaces for local arts, schools, cultural organizations, and recreation, becoming a confluence for people, ecology, and water along the LA River. The site design supports this mission through sustainable water reuse, native habitat areas, cultural gardens, and connectivity to the larger LA River corridor and trail system as well as an extension of Hollydale Regional Park. This project is at a critical point along the LA River site network where high community needs for education and arts exist in parallel with high park, ecosystem, and water quality needs.
Neighbors, school groups, residents of the City of South Gate and nearby cities, as well as the greater LA River community and LA County will come together at the SELA Cultural Center, reinforcing the social and environmental connectivity of the LA River communities. Outdoor spaces in and around the Cultural Center provide respite and also opportunity for impromptu outdoor performances and creative arts.
